First survey on SOGI-based bullying among youth conducted

On 30th March 2016 in Skopje were the results of the first survey on bullying based on sexual orientation and gender identity among the youth presented. The survey aimed to map the situation with the attitudes and perceptions of the young people living in Skopje on the bullying, discrimination and harassment against the young LGBTIQ+ people. The findings of this survey show that the young LGBTIQ+ people show higher levels of anxiety in social interaction than their heterosexual counterparts. The survey also shows that the LGBTIQ+ youth is more prone to feel depression than the heterosexual youth, as well as they are more likely to conceal private, personal information about themselves as they think it is inappropriate, unacceptable and even forbidden.

survey-sogiFinally, the survey shows that the young LGBTIQ+ people think that they are experiencing higher levels of discrimination than their straight counterparts. The survey was conducted in the period from September 2015 to February 2016 by Subversive Front – association for a critical approach to gender and sexuality from Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, in partnership with the biggest youth organization in Macedonia – Youth Educational Forum.
